Emilyn: bio

EMILYN

From the halls of Oberlin Conservatory to the mountain lodges of Colorado, Emilyn’s clear soprano voice has mesmerized her audiences.

Her gentle fingerpicking and lyrical melodies transport the listener to another place and time. Ballads of old Britain and early America, and songs of the Wild West blend with Rocky Mountain-grown originals. Her seamless phrasing and emotional sensitivity have been described as “metamorphic” and “angelic.”

Her debut album, Some Lone Valley, displays her memorable soprano voice and signature traditional folk repertoire.

Years of vocal training and performance experience have made her a versatile, sensitive, and solid musician.

From the time that my mother began singing to me before I was born, I've always loved music.

Although I moved around the East and Midwest growing up, I've always felt drawn to the mountains of Colorado. Their timelessness, beauty, and simplicity inspire my music--both my choice of traditional songs, and my originals.

I play piano, guitar, fiddle, mountain dulcimer, alto and soprano recorders, clarinet, and of course, I sing.

I attended Oberlin College and Conservatory in Ohio, studied voice, and earned a BA in Music. I also studied Women's Studies and taught an Environmental Studies class while at Oberlin.
Today my interest in Ecology is reflected in my music, my dedication of $1 from each CD to Environment Colorado, and in my teaching.

For over 11 years, I have taught people of all ages in individual lessons, camps, 3 years at a Montessori School, community college, small groups, teacher trainings. I teach private music lessons in voice, piano, and guitar, and I have also taught general music, creative expression, ecology, and nature photography.

Contact me for your upcoming party, art opening, or wedding. I perform solo or accompanied; folk, country, Celtic, or classical music in several languages, and originals.

COYOTE MOON

Emilyn’s gentle fingerpicking and mesmerizing soprano clearly complement the high energy of Coyote Joe’s soulful and energetic guitar and vocals.
Blending two guitars, a fiddle, and close, trained harmonies, they play traditional and contemporary western country and folk, with an array of strong originals.
